New Genetic Test for Thyroid Nodules

Told to Have Surgery for a Suspicious Thyroid Nodule Biopsy?

A New Approved Molecular Marker test is now available to determine if a suspicious nodule by FNA cytology headed for lobectomy,
is benign. The test looks at 143 genes that are expressed in benign nodules. This will prevent tens of thousands of unnecessary surgeries. The test is 96% effective in finding and saving patients from surgery. They would not have surgery, but be followed in a similar way as an outright benign nodule on FNA cytology.

Where can you get the test? The soft opening will continue until March 2011.

Until then only a few centers can do the testing.

Santa Monica Thyroid is one of them.

If you have been told to have surgery because of a suspicious result on needle biopsy, you are a candidate for this marker.

It is a test to determine if it is benign, not one to say it is cancer. The name of the test, and the company who developed it will be revealed after March 2011, but if you see me I can do it now and you will only pay for me to obtain the sample, but pay nothing out of pocket for doing the test. The company will accept your insurance, medicare, medical, and send you a letter that you do not owe anything.
