Dr. Guttler's Newsletter November 2, 2003 Hello to all my subscribers, Thyroid cancer is now the number 1 in incidence growth among all cancers in females. It is number 3 in males. The increase in thyroid cancer in females from 1997 11,400 to 16,300 cases in 2003. The 5 year survival rate is almost 100% (96%), but recurrence rate can be high and as late as 10-20 years after the initial surgery.
Always get a second opinion BEFORE the surgery to be sure it is needed and to get the necessary pre-surgery Cancer Marker testing. You can not ever replace that test after the surgery.
